Multi Ply Conveyor Belt

GENERAL-PURPOSE FABRIC BELTING

Multi Ply Rubber Conveyor Belt

An EP (polyester-polyamide) fabric-plied belt built as the workhorse of bulk material handling — mining, harbour, coal, metallurgy, and chemical plant transfer over short and medium distances. The same rubber-cover, multi-ply construction is also the base platform we customize into oil/fat resistant, acid-alkali, heat resistant, cold resistant, flame retardant, and abrasion resistant belting.

The standard belt behind most bulk material lines

A multi-ply conveyor belt is built from alternating layers of EP (polyester warp, polyamide weft) fabric bonded between rubber covers — the fabric plies carry the tension load, the rubber covers protect against wear, weather, and impact. It's the lowest-cost, most widely applicable conveying method for bulk cargo over short and medium distances, which is why it's the default specification across mining, port and harbour transfer, coal handling, metallurgy, and chemical plant material movement. Because the ply construction is the same across our full belting range, this base rubber-cover platform is also what we customize into specialty belting: oil and fat resistant, acid and alkali resistant, heat and high-temperature resistant, flame retardant, cold resistant, and abrasion resistant covers all start from this multi-ply carcass. If your application doesn't need a specialty cover, this is the belt to specify.

One carcass, built for whatever the cover needs to resist

Specify this multi-ply base with the cover treatment that matches your operating environment.

Oil & fat resistant

For feed, oilseed, and rendering by-product handling.

Acid & alkali resistant

For fertilizer, sea salt, and chemical plant contact duty.

Heat / high-temp resistant

For sinter, coke, clinker, and hot casting transfer.

Flame retardant

For underground mining and enclosed-space regulatory duty.

Cold resistant

For outdoor freezing-region and cold storage operation.

Abrasion resistant

For sand, ore, and crushed aggregate high-wear duty.

Standard general-purpose

No specialty exposure — this base construction on its own.

Custom combinations

Two or more resistances combined where the process demands it.

EP fabric strength series reference

Tensile rating (N/mm) by ply count. Use this to match belt strength to your conveyor length, incline, and loading — higher EP series and higher ply counts both raise the rated tension.
EP fabric series — tensile strength by ply count (N/mm)
Series 2 ply 3 ply 4 ply 5 ply 6 ply
EP-80 160 240 320 400 480
EP-100 200 300 400 500 600
EP-150 300 450 600 750 900
EP-200 400 600 800 1000 1200
EP-250 500 750 1000 1250 1500
EP-300 600 900 1200 1500 1800
EP-350 1050 1400 1750 2100
EP-400 1600 2000 2400
EP-500 2000 2500 3000
All series are available in 350–2200mm width, 2–12mm upper cover / 1–5mm lower cover, in roll lengths up to 300m. Lower ply counts aren't offered on the higher-strength series (EP-350 and above) since a single or double ply of that fabric weight isn't a practical lay-up.

Cover grade by international standard

Cover rubber is quoted to whichever standard your project specifies. Reference grades across the four most common:
DIN 22102
Grade Tensile (MPa) Elongation (%) Abrasion (mm³)
Z 15 350 250
W 18 400 90
Y 20 400 150
X 25 450 120
AS 1332
Grade Tensile (MPa) Elongation (%) Abrasion (mm³)
N17 17 400 200
M24 24 450 125
RMA
Grade Tensile (MPa) Elongation (%)
RMA-I 17 400
RMA-II 14 400
SANS 1173
Grade Tensile (MPa) Elongation (%) Abrasion (mm³)
A 18 400 70
C 20 400 150
M 25 450 120
N 17 400 150
Adhesion (cover-to-ply and ply-to-ply) is tested and quoted alongside these tensile/elongation/abrasion figures for every standard — typically 3–5 N/mm depending on cover thickness and the standard applied.

Built for buyers running everyday bulk transport

If your material and environment are within normal limits — no extreme chemical, temperature, or oil exposure — this is the belt category that covers the job at the lowest delivered cost.
  • Open-pit & underground mining haulage
  • Port & harbour bulk cargo transfer
  • Coal handling & preparation plants
  • Metallurgy & steel plant material transfer
  • Chemical plant general bulk conveying
  • Quarry & aggregate stockpiling
  • Grain & agricultural elevator transport
  • Cement & construction material handling
  • Recycling & general waste transfer
  • Short-to-medium haul in-plant conveying

Common questions

What does the EP series number mean?

EP-80, EP-100, EP-150, and so on refer to the tensile strength per ply of the fabric — a higher number means a stronger single ply, which lets you hit a required overall tensile rating with fewer plies and a thinner, lighter belt.

How do I choose ply count versus EP series?

Both raise total tensile strength, but ply count also adds thickness and troughability, while a higher EP series adds strength without extra plies. For long conveyors or high tension runs we typically recommend fewer plies of a higher EP series over many plies of a lower one.

Which cover standard should I specify — DIN, AS, RMA, or SANS?

Whichever your project documentation already calls for; if there's no existing standard, DIN 22102 is the most commonly requested reference internationally, and we'll match grade (Z/W/Y/X) to your abrasion and tensile needs.

Can this be upgraded to a specialty resistant belt later?

The specialty resistances (oil, acid-alkali, heat, cold, flame retardant, abrasion) are built into the cover compound at manufacture, so they need to be specified up front rather than added after. Tell us your operating conditions and we'll recommend the right cover from the start.

What information do you need to quote a multi-ply belt?

Belt width, required tensile rating or conveyor length/incline/load so we can calculate it, ply count or EP series preference, cover thickness, and any specialty resistance needed.
