Built for the angle a flat belt can't hold Once an incline passes roughly 18°, loose or lumpy material starts sliding back down a smooth belt faster than it moves up. Chevron belting solves this by vulcanizing a raised pattern — a V or C shape — directly into the cover rubber. The pattern acts as a mechanical stop for the material sitting on top of it, letting the belt run at steeper angles while keeping the simple, low-maintenance layout of a standard troughed conveyor. The carcass underneath is the same nylon (NN) or polyester (EP) fabric construction used in general conveyor belting, so chevron belts install on standard idlers, pulleys, and frames — no special conveyor geometry required, aside from accounting for the extra pattern height at the loading and discharge points.

Cover compounds, matched to what's on the belt The pattern shape moves the material; the cover compound is what determines service life. Compound selection is typically the first question we ask before quoting a width or ply count.

Wear-resistant

General abrasion resistance for sand, gravel, ore, and crushed stone. The default choice for quarry and aggregate lines.

Heat-resistant

Rated to 150°C for hot clinker, sinter, ash, or foundry sand discharged directly onto the belt.

Oil & fat-resistant

Holds up against animal feed, oilseed, and rendering by-products that degrade standard rubber compounds.

Flame-retardant

Meets underground coal mining requirements where belt flammability is regulated.

Food-grade cover

PVC or PU top cover for grain, sugar, and packaged food handling where rubber taste or dust transfer isn't acceptable.

Cold-weather grade

Retains flexibility down to −40°C for outdoor stockyard and winter port operations.

Incline figures assume free-flowing to moderately cohesive material under normal loading. Sticky, fine, or highly variable material typically runs 3–5° below the listed maximum — confirm against your material's angle of repose before finalizing.

Common questions

Can chevron belting replace a bucket elevator?

For inclines up to about 35–40°, yes, in most bulk-material cases — with a lower capital cost, simpler maintenance, and no enclosed housing. Above that, a bucket elevator or pipe conveyor is usually the better fit.

Does the chevron pattern wear down faster than a flat belt?

The pattern peaks see more localized wear than a flat cover, which is why pattern height and cover compound are selected together — a 20mm C-type in a wear-resistant compound will outlast an undersized pattern on the same duty.

Can V-type and C-type belts run on the same idlers as flat belting?

Yes. The carcass and troughing angle are unchanged; only the loading zone and any skirting need adjusting to clear the raised pattern.

What information do you need to quote a belt?

Belt width, incline angle, material type and lump size, ambient and material temperature, and center-to-center conveyor length. Throughput target helps confirm ply count and belt speed.
